The Surprising Link Between Hormones and Gum Health

What 30 women taught us in our THOH inHouse Study with Curaprox

When we talk about hormonal health, we often think about mood swings, hot flushes, or energy dips. But your oral health is also shaped by your hormones, especially during times like perimenopause, menopause, and your monthly cycle. Our latest THOH inHouse Study with Curaprox explored this connection, and what we found revealed how closely hormonal changes and gum health are linked.

How hormones influence your gums

Hormones such as oestrogen and progesterone affect blood flow, inflammation, and how your body responds to bacteria. When these hormone levels rise or fall, your gums can become more sensitive and reactive. Gums that feel sore or swollen at certain points in your cycle, bleeding when brushing or flossing and mild gum sensitivity or a change in freshness

What we discovered in our Curaprox x THOH inHouse Study

Thirty women from the THOH community took part in a 30-day oral health study, testing the Curaprox CS 5460, a super-soft, high-density toothbrush known for protecting delicate gum tissue. We wanted to see whether gentle brushing could support gum health through hormonal changes. Here’s what our real women found:

  • 81% noticed less gum bleeding or sensitivity
  • 93% said they now view oral health as part of their hormonal wellbeing
  • 75% plan to continue using their Curaprox toothbrush

Why this connection matters

Understanding the link between oral health and hormones helps women take a more complete approach to wellbeing. Your gums aren’t separate from the rest of your body, they’re part of your hormonal story. By recognising these patterns, we can start choosing products and routines that truly respect our changing biology. At The House of Hormones, we believe women’s lived experiences are data — and when we listen, we move closer to real, evidence-based solutions designed with women in mind.
