New Study Reveals Why Women Drop Out of Mental Health Support….And It’s Not What You Think
The House of Hormones, in partnership with Flow Neuroscience, has released findings from a first-of-its-kind community study into women’s mental health habits. The results highlight the real barriers women face when it comes to prioritising themselves, and why so many fall through the cracks.
Out of 45 women who initially signed up, 20 dropped out. When asked why, the majority cited being “too busy,” “forgetting,” or feeling overwhelmed. Crucially, 83% admitted they’ve dropped out of something meant to help them before, even when they wanted to continue.
Other key findings include:
- Nearly 7 in 10 women say their hormones “run the show” when it comes to their mood
- 58% of women delay getting help and simply “wait it out” instead of acting
- Only 17% prioritise themselves daily
- 1 in 3 women want hormone health to finally be taken seriously by the system
Perhaps most strikingly, when told “You deserve support even when you’re not at rock bottom”, a significant proportion of women felt emotional or uncomfortable, with many admitting they struggle to feel they deserve support unless at crisis point.
“This shows the system isn’t failing because women don’t care, it’s failing because it’s not designed for real women’s lives,” said Leah Christian, Founder of The House of Hormones.
The House of Hormones is calling for more research, funding, and solutions that account for women’s hormonal cycles, emotional realities, and everyday pressures, not just “ideal” conditions.
